Bikes unite!

This recent email from the League of American Bicyclists offers an uplifting message about the benefits of bicycles, especially in these trying times.

You are not alone.

I’m feeling it, too: the stress of isolation, the deluge of new at-home responsibilities, and the gloom of information. In this time of global pandemic, I am relying on bicycling more than ever to bring me a dose of daily joy. And I am not alone.

I have seen my neighbors and their son outside at mid-day gliding around on a balance bike. I have seen people flocking to trails, looking for respite from sheltering in place. I have heard local bike shops reporting skyrocketing sales of new bikes. And some cities are even closing roads to cars to allow more space for people.

Bikes unite us, even while we are apart. Seeing so many people derive so much joy in biking has made me more resolute and forward-looking. It has given me much-needed focus in a time of unprecedented uncertainty.”

Here’s to hoping we maintain some of these new healthy habits in the long-term!
